Malala of Pakistan and Satyarthi of India awarded Nobel Peace Prize

Lexile Level: “1050” (11th grade level)

I am reading this article on “Newsela” about Malala and how she went through her life in Pakistan and how she got awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. When Malala was in Pakistan, she wrote a book called “I’m Malala” about her life and how women don’t get an education in Pakistan.

When women get married in Pakistan, the husband has to decide whether she can go to get an education or stay home. This is quote is what Malala said: “I said to myself, Malala, you must be brave, you must not be afraid of anyone, you are only trying to get an education, you are not committing a crime.” This quote tells about Malala talking to herself about education and why women get education in Pakistan. She got shot in the head because she stood up for education for women in Pakistan.

Malala stood up for women’s beliefs because she wants women to get education, because women can prove to their husbands that they can do more things than cooking or staying home. Malala was a brave woman who stood up for women’s rights in Pakistan. I hope people learned the lesson that women can stand up for their rights.

  1. I agree with you about Malala. Malala is going to prove to the world that women can do everything that the men do. I really like this article. Malala is a very brave woman to stand up for women’s education. She wasn`t scared about standing up for women. God is giving her a second chance to live in this world.
